Matthew Ryan -a.k.a. Matt, Buddy

This kid is growing up to fast. We were standing by each other in the hall at church today and the Sunbeams walked by. I told him I remembered when he went to Sunbeams for the first time. It made me feel old. He quickly reminded me that he is now in his last year of primary, which makes me feel old again. Matthew is a sweet kind hearted person. He has loved animals since he was little. Instead of watching cartoons he wanted to watch the Nat Geo Wild channel. He still knows tons about them and has an admiring respect for them. He tends to be shy but has always been a good friend to people. He has always made friends easily, and finds good friends. I think that is a blessing he has been given since he doesn’t get to have his brother Aaron with him right now. He is very smart, he is very good at math and science.  A lot of things come naturally to him so when they don’t he tends to get frustrated easily and wants to move on because he is ‘bad at it’, but if made to stick with it he can usually figure it out. He says he doesn’t like math for that reason sometimes when they are learning something new but he has a math brain like his dad. That is not the only thing he got from his dad either. He is a little mini Ryan. He has his dads logic, reasoning, and stubbornness, and ability to remember everyone he has ever met, to name a few. All of which will serve him well. He is smart, and talented. He is naturally athletic and enjoys playing sports. He has tried soccer, basketball, baseball, and football. He has narrowed in on baseball. He tried out for a league team this past summer and made it and has really enjoyed being able to go and play or practice baseball year round. Ryan and him spend a lot of time together and get to have that in common. We encourage him to play basketball in the off season to mix it up a little. He is always willing to try new things. Whenever there is a new club or experience that comes up at school or he finds out about he wants to give it a try.  He has done a few chess clubs,  violin, and he always prepares a talent for the school talent show. The very first time he did it, he had his dad come and and throw a ball with him a few times. This year he is practicing a piano piece to play. He loves to read. Harry Potter is his favorite series, he is reading it for the third time right now.  He has a good head on his shoulders and thinks about things-ponders- and makes a decision about things purposefully.  He tries to change himself and work to be a better person. I think his self awareness is pretty impressive for his age.  He is a good brother to his sisters. He likes to spend time with them, and of course tease them and bug them too. I am proud of the boy he is, and is becoming.
